taylor swift: the complete collection
spring 2022
TASK
This assignment required reading, sketching, editing, and developing grids in the parent page to effectively present text and image throughout the length of a 75+ page book. Using everything we had learned previously in the course, we were to establish a clear hierarchy, direction, and an effective rhythm and page dynamic. The criteria for the book included having 50-75 high resolution images and 5000 words of text with 4-5 size variations for the images and type. The composition design had to demonstrate a clear understanding of static vs active marginal space, the use of a grid system to emphasize hierarchy, and the working dynamics of the frame.
process
I chose to base my book on the works of Taylor Swift. Her music has inspired me to always be as creative and whimsical as I wished throughout my life. My final book had 9 chapters, each representing one of her albums. The text I used were reviews of the albums and the pictures were a combination of music video, tour, and album photoshoot pictures. Sourcing the hi res images, deciding what moments from each era to capture, and putting everything together while keeping the layouts dynamic and engaging without being too predictable was mainly fueled by my love for Taylor and my passion for presenting her life work in a visually captivating way that reflected her dynamic career. The finished product is a 112 page book highlighting the complete works of Taylor Swift.
